STYLING SMART-CASUAL THE RIGHT WAY
Casually Styling the suit jacket might be simple but it’s not necessarily always easy. Getting the smart casual combination right is the difference between making the street your catwalk or your walk of shame. Ok, maybe those are extremes but you seriously don’t want to look like the dad that only wears grey suits but thought he’d just mix in a pair of blue jeans one day to look “cool”.
Blazers and suit jackets are quite statement pieces to style as they can be bold, structured and powerful. So casually styling them with jeans or more relaxed clothing can be a nice everyday look. Unless you’re wearing a matching set, I’d recommend wearing plain bottoms with a printed jacket as I have done here. If your jacket is plain and one colour, you can then do the opposite and opt for printed pants or dresses. The key is to stick with the same colour palette as the jacket you’re wearing as that is the focus. This ties the whole look together as purposeful rather than an accidental mishmash.
THE FREEDOM OF CASUAL STYLING
With the more casual dressing of the suit jacket, statement or playful accessories are welcome. This outfit shows how I’ve contrasted the print of the accessories to that of the jacket for more of a statement. As opposed to the full Print Power Suit look where black accessories were used to create a more professional finish.
Although the jeans add a casual touch to this outfit, their fit and cut still look chic and glamourous. I cut the hem of these grey jeans for the frayed effect and it works perfectly for the look. Overall this outfit works well for a lunch date, relaxed meeting or a causal day at the office.
