CHECK PRINT STYLE CHALLENGE

Check print is a familiar fashion trend that constantly revolves, so while it’s back, this style challenge featuring a fellow fashionista is a great way to show different ways to wear the print. Toya Berry of ‘Champagne and Stilettos’ reached out for a style collaboration, and being that behind the scenes, fashion editing can be a little lonely & lack lustre at times, it was an excellent collaboration idea. Building a style community and supporting one another, not just online is a great mission. Toya set the check print style challenge as the theme for us each to style with individual flair. Interestingly we both ended up with layered monochrome looks but each look showed differences in finish, personality and character.

STYLING CHECK PRINT DIFFERENTLY

Check print is almost as classic a print as stripes, so whether it’s in season or not, there’s always a way to infuse it into your looks. Instead of going for a bold check print look like this stripes and checks outfit, I instead wore a monochrome check shirt underneath a black tailored cut out dress. To make the look more winter style appropriate, I completed the look with black tights, court heels and a faux fur jacket & scarf. Toya’s look is a reverse monochrome print asymmetric hem top layered over a white button shirt and paired with coated leather trousers and ankle boots.

AFTER FASHION, FUN FACTS

The check style challenge was fun to shoot and it was nice getting to know Toya behind the lens.

2 | She’s obsessed with old hollywood glamour and loves black and white movies
3 | Toya loves autumn, it is her favourite time of year for fashion: Statement coats, tailoring and layering.

5 | Toya has a stationary fetish and she loves personalised notepaper, luxury pens, folders etc.
