When it comes to fashion trends, there’s always a way to indulge and make it work for you without fully immersing yourself or your bank account. If you often have your eye on items that have an eye for your wallet, there are two easy alternatives to trying them out without completely committing. After all we’re not about the throw-away-after-one-season-life over here.
The first option is dupes (not knock-offs), which means finding a similar & often cheaper alternative. Secondly, there’s the DIY option. It is absolutely unnecessary to indulge in every trend that comes along. But if there is one you really do love, don’t be afraid to introduce it to your wardrobe. Like the gorgeous grey fluted sleeve dress outfit, there’s a way to make any fashion trend work for you with some intentional styling.
TESTING THE TREND
You’d only have to be breathing to know that bum-bags/ belt-bags/ fanny-packs are one of the hottest trends right now. Although it’s definitely not a new fashion look, it’s just now cooler to wear it, even if you’re not a tourist or mum at Disneyland. If you’re partial to a bit of luxury but can’t justify paying the designer belt bag price tags for possibly a season or two, there are many high-street alternatives that offer you the look for less. You can buy a stylish piece for a fraction of the designer cost while still indulging in the trend. Not only does this option grant you more style choices to pick from but the low investment cost means that you can do so pressure and guilt free.
If there’s a worry about a trend suiting you, start by selecting a piece in a classic and solid colour. This will make it easy to incorporate into your existing wardrobe. If you can think of two or more current outfits to pair it with, then it’s a worthwhile addition.
MAKING IT WORK!
If you find the dupes or trend pieces on offer uninspiring, you can always get creative with some DIY. By simply using items you already have in your wardrobe you’d be surprised with the possibilities. For instance, to try out the belt bag trend on this all-black look, a monogram shoulder bag strap is simply attached to a mini accessories pouch, with a double wrap around the waist. Just by using items already available, you can create different style options without obligation or excessive costs. Fashion doesn’t have to be fussy; it just has to be fabulous.
