HOW TO WEAR BLACK TO A WEDDING

Just like how to wear cream to a wedding, wearing black takes some finesse, flair and fabulousness. As someone who adores wearing black for any and every occasion, the time was bound to come when the challenge of wearing it to a wedding would arise. Fortunately the joy of wearing black and any monochrome outfit idea is that you can play with tones, textures and fabrics to enhance your look. For my close friends wedding recently, I chose to let lace make the impact for me.

The mid length of this black lace dress as well as the cut out detail and fit, all contribute to making this outfit wedding guest appropriate. And although the look is black, the cut out lace details make the outfit still look light, fun and flirty and also great for a summer wedding.

HOW TO STRIKE THE BALANCE

If no colour scheme has been selected for the wedding you’re attending, it’s ok to wear it as long as it is done in good taste. No longer taboo, wearing black to a wedding is striking as it is daring. Getting the balance so you don’t look too casual, or like what to wear to a funeral is so importance. Elements of formal dressing are sure to make your black look a winner, so take note. Options like a long flowy gown, pieces in lace material and sexy silhouettes are all great direction.

Where possible or not requested, full gowns, lace top only dresses and tuxedos should be avoided. This to avoid looking like a bride, bridesmaid or groom yourself. Always take heed of the dress code, so as to not stick out like a sore thumb. Because there is certainly a difference between sticking out and standing out.
