Double denim was a thing before we even knew it was a “thing”. From tourists travel comfort clothing to your parents just wanting a “cohesive” casual look, double denim has been an unconscious ‘go-to’ through the times. Well now it’s the ‘how-to’ that we want to get right. Contrary to unfashionable beliefs, there are so many ways to wear double denim with much cool factor. It really doesn’t have to be a fashion faux pas if you style it right.
The usual and most simple double denim outfit would be jeans, a top and a denim jacket. But there are so many ways to wear the trend well, that you really don’t have to be end up like Justin & Britney’s denim disaster. Its amazing to see how our perspective on things change over time, including style. A few years ago, I believed wearing double denim was beyond a faux pas and now I can’t get enough of it. I just love how edgy yet chic the look can be.
DOUBLE DENIM STYLING OPTIONS
This double denim look was for my last day of London Fashion Week to attend the Lulu Liu’s A/W 2013 show. My twist on the look was to wear a denim zip jacket as a shirt tucked into flares. I then layered a black faux fur coat over the look for texture. My advice on the trend would be to make sure both denim pieces contrast but still complement each other. Do this by simply going for different shades, with the most flattering combination being a lighter shade on top. When wearing the same shades in a denim outfit, be sure to add some interesting details like patterns and accessories to break up the look. This was done when wearing double denim with a shacket dress.
To take the effort of getting the combination right, there are many easy double denim styling options like wearing jumpsuits, dresses and even the full-on dungarees look. If you prefer to wear double denim less obviously, try pairing different coloured pieces together. Like wearing blue denim with black denim as shown in how to wear triple denim in winter.
You can also try adding different vibes to your look by wearing double denim with leather, styling double denim with a tailored coat or wearing double denim and gold. To break up a double denim outfit, you can wear a bold top or even crop top underneath. The possibilties with double denim are endless, even to the point of wearing triple denim for spring, yeah you read right!

Luv the dungarees. I agree with you, I thought the denim on denim look should've stayed in the 90s but I've warmed up to it – again 🙂
Love this look with the coat. I agree it's funny how our tastes change over time. But it's also fun to look back on things we said we'd never wear that we rock now. 🙂 I definitely want to try this look.
