REAL MOMENTS WITH SIMPLY BE

To be illustrated for Simply Be’s Real Moments campaign is an honour and it’s actually hilarious to see a once awkward memory captured so stylishly. Simply Be chose a select few to share “real moments” & personally it wasn’t too much of a struggle to remember a moment that women experience in everyday life. Albeit that they were then going to capture that real moment with unique illustrations. Mine is a memorable and relatable fashion mishap. We all have style memories that you look back on and cringe because you’re wondering “what was I thinking?” This particular episode happened in secondary school/high school.

One particular day in school, we had a non-uniform day. This meant “come as stylishly dressed as you can in your own clothes, to make up for all the other days you have to wear ghastly uniform of navy blue and grey”. Loving bold colours then, a bright neon green t-shirt and favourite orange jeans were my outfit of choice. This advance level of colour blocking didn’t end there. Because blue velcro strapped Nike sneakers and brown tinted glasses made the complete look.

Despite loving my look back then, looking back now, the thought of such a blinding ensemble today induces cringing episodes. Although on a positive note, it could translate as being well advanced of the colour blocking trend. Regarding wearing green & orange now, outfits like 1 textured pencil skirt through 2 seasons will prove the progress. Thankfully, this is now a real laughable moment and it surely goes down as a top “what was I thinking” memory, especially now that it’s been memorialised in illustration by Simple Be.
